Factor HANZŌ
World-Class TT bike
Whether the race is WorldTour or a local Wednesday evening time trial, every competitive cyclist wants equipment that enhances their performance. The HANZŌ time trial bike pushes right up to the limits of UCI design regulations to make it among the fastest UCI-approved TT bikes in the world.
OVERVIEW
It’s fashionable to say that bikes have become as aero as possible. The HANZŌ proves otherwise. When designing it, Factor capitalised on revised UCI rules with the goal of making the fastest purpose-built time trial bike in the world.
The design focused on reducing frontal area and selecting the perfect airfoils to ensure the bike performs optimally during real world racing conditions.
The incredibly narrow front profile begins with the external steerer fork, which perfectly integrates with the shape of the frame. The wide stance fork and seat stays are positioned to eliminate turbulence from reversed airflow coming off the tyres and to help smooth the flow from the rider’s legs. The elegant mono riser cockpit greatly simplifies and slims down the system for adjusting stack height, virtually eliminating any penalty for raising the pads.
Attributes
Fast on the Road
The HANZŌ is made to be fast on the road, not just in the wind tunnel. To that end, it’s easy to adjust into your optimum position, it smoothly integrates an aero bottle on the downtube, and it boasts exceptional frame stiffness for efficient power transfer and handling precision.
DESIGN
THE LOWEST FRONTAL AREA
The super-thin front end creates the lowest possible drag by presenting the minimal surface area to the wind. Every part on the HANZŌ is highly refined, with particular attention paid to the transitions between tube shapes to give the best possible performance at both low and high effective wind angles.
The results of this work can be seen most clearly with the smooth integration of the fork and frame. The fork crown blends into the down tube, the external steerer forms an extended airfoil with the head tube, and the basebar and stem transitions perfectly into the toptube.
The exceptionally narrow one-piece mono riser stack solution allows the rider to increase stack height with virtually no frontal area penalty. Totally UCI-compliant, this system eliminates the need for bolted risers which increase the frontal area and compromise the handling of the bike.
Build My HANZŌRESPONSIVE RIDE
Aero is everything. Nearly. Time trial courses are not straight lines on flat roads, so the HANZŌ is engineered to be incredibly stiff and responsive. It transfers every pedal stroke into speed and every handlebar input into a faithful steering response.
The better a TT bike handles, the more confidence you will have, which in turns means you can stay on the extensions for corners which would otherwise have required a move to the base bar and stay in your optimum position through bends that might have made you lift your head. Confidence equals speed.
Build My HANZŌPRECISION
The steering precision of the HANZŌ begins at the cockpit. Factor’s ability to mold the mono riser with internal reinforcement creates exceptional stiffness and eliminates spacer stacks which are less structurally sound. The one-piece external steerer further boosts torsional stiffness compared to a very narrow internal steerer.
Further back on the bike, downstream in the airflow where measurable aero savings are minimal, stiffness becomes the design priority. The down tube, bottom bracket, chainstays and the junction between them are all extremely rigid. This area pushes the UCI rules to the limit to achieve ultimate aero performance along with very high rigidity.
Key Features
The fork and seat stays are set wide to avoid interaction with the reverse airflow coming off the rotating tyre
The external steerer of the fork is shaped to extend the airfoil section of the headtube, significantly reducing drag
The narrow mono riser allows increased stack height with virtually no frontal area penalty
The base bar is designed to fit aftermarket extensions from leading suppliers such as Aerocoach and Wattshop
The shape of the down tube is designed to accommodate an aero bottle with virtually zero drag penalty
Brake lines and shifting wires are run completely internally to keep them out of the wind
