The team at Factor set the bar high for themselves in all areas. It starts with ride experience and everything that comprises. As passionate cyclists, some of them former professionals, they’re very discerning about ride quality and want the best for their customers because it’s also what they want to ride themselves. Then they look at what it takes to achieve that ride quality, and they do it. No compromises, no corners cut.
All aspects of performance – aerodynamics, lightness, handling, smoothness – are pursued relentlessly, often through dozens of prototype iterations, until targets are met. Professional men’s and women’s teams contribute to the final testing and validation, and of course showcasing the bikes on the world stage.
ADVANCED ENGINEERING
Engineers, not accounts, have the last word on the selection of materials and setting of manufacturing tolerances. It makes the bikes much more expensive to produce, but because Factor owns its factory those costs are not passed to the customer. CEO Rob Gitelis once said that the O2 VAM would be a $10k frameset if conventional industry margins were applied, but all he cared about was making the best bike possible. These are the people you want making your next bike and this is how you want them to make it.
This mindset can be traced a long way back through the converging histories of Factor Bikes and Rob Gitelis. The brand began as an offshoot of a Formula One engineering company, where the highest standards are simply the norm. Gitelis, as a factory owner, had previously made bikes for other high-profile brands but felt frustration at the compromises involved. Acquiring Factor Bikes was a chance to continue to build on the brand’s beginnings by doing things his way.
