That speed is achieved through rim and spoke shapes that were designed, tested and refined using advanced virtual wind tunnel software, known as CFD (computational fluid dynamics). The deep section rim and spokes are shaped to slice through the air in calm conditions and to generate the “sail effect” when crosswinds create an off-centre wind angle. In certain conditions, the THREE can even create negative drag, pulling itself through the air and deducting from the total drag of the bike and rider system. Crucially, it does so while behaving in a stable, predictable, confidence-inspiring manner.
The one-piece wheel structure is made from ultra-high strength carbon fibre with a dedicated layup to optimise the balance of compliance and lateral stiffness. The THREE is offered as a tubeless-clincher for both disc and rim brakes. It is also available as a tubular for rim brakes.
